The 10kV series gap zinc oxide arrester (common models include YH5CX-13/40, YH10CX-13/40, YH5CX-17/50, and YH10CX-17/50) is a specialized lightning protection device for 10kV overhead distribution networks. It is primarily used to suppress lightning overvoltages, prevent lightning flashover of line insulators and wire breakage, and reduce the line lightning trip-out rate. The product consists of a zinc oxide nonlinear resistor valve plate, a fixed series discharge gap, and a silicone rubber composite insulating jacket. Under normal operating conditions, the series gap isolates the valve plate from the power frequency voltage, and the valve plate has almost no leakage current, avoiding long-term live aging and achieving a longer service life compared to gapless lightning arresters. When a lightning strike occurs, the gap quickly breaks down and conducts, allowing the zinc oxide valve plate to quickly discharge the lightning current and limit the overvoltage to a safe range. After the lightning impulse ends, the gap reliably cuts off the power frequency continuous current, and the device returns to an insulating state.
